Welcome to the new school year. My name is Toru Tagawa, and this is my 13th year as the Orchestra Director at Canyon del Oro High School. I am looking forward to working with all of you and making great music. At CDO, we have two orchestras, the Concert Orchestra and the Symphonic Orchestra. The Concert Orchestra is open to intermediate level students, and the Symphonic Orchestra is only open to advanced students and audition is required.
In both orchestras, we will cover a variety of literature from J.S. Bach to full orchestra music. We will be learning about composers, scales, key signatures in addition to playing your instrument.
Please read this handbook carefully and sign the online contract by August 17, 2021. Link is at Orchestra Handbook 2021-2022 Make sure to put your T-shirt size, you will receive one Orchestra T-shirt. We will make T-shirts after we are able to meet in person.

School Instrument update. Those of you who are coming back (or moving up) to CDO, Cross or Harelson, you may keep your instrument during the summer, please let me know if you are intending to do so. If you want to return the instrument for the summer, or you are moving school next year, or not continuing with Orchestra next year for any reasons, please let me know, and we will find a way for you to return the instrument to school. First week was a trial week, so all of you received full credit. From 3/30/20, assignment will be graded. (Minimum 4 check boxes, total 10 points, one task counts as 1 point, so lowest grade will be 6, and highest is 10)
You must be able to check 4 boxes on Orchestra E-learning sheet every week in order to receive full point. (Total, 10 points each week). . Please turn in through Google Classroom by filling out the Google Form, if not, please turn in a picture of the OrchestraE-Learning4Form and send it to ttagawa@amphi.com. If picture is not possible, you can send what you have done in email.(For example, Played for Family (Parents, Siblings, Dogs, Cats, etc), Composed a song (Song title), Learned a piece by ear(Song Title), Practiced with Youtube lesson (Link), etc).

CDO Orchestra and Cross Middle School Orchestra Concerts for 2018-2019 School Year will be

Concert Order will be Cross Middle School (Intermediate, Advanced), then CDO (Concert, Symphonic) (December Concert order will be Elementary, Middle, HS)
CDO Orchestra and Band Traveled to Anaheim, CA to perform at the Heritage Festival at Rose Center Theater on 3/16/18. Both Orchestras and Bands performed well, and received numerous awards. Symphonic Orchestra and Wind Ensemble Received Gold 1st Place, also receiving Adjudicators Awards, and invitation to the Festivals of Gold. Concert Orchestra and Symphonic Band Received Silver Awards. Band scored highest in the Band category and received the Outstanding Ensemble award. We scored highest points for the top Orchestra and Band combined, and received Instrumental Sweepstake Award, Kai Skaggs, Violin, Gabby Cioca and Ashton Rowe received the Maestro Award for performing Solos. We also attended a concert performed by Pacific Symphony Orchestra, with Pinchas Zuckerman as violin soloist at Segerstrom Concert Hall, and spend a day at the Disneyland, and visited Little Tokyo on the way back. We had a wonderful time. Thank you all for your support!
